Forgive and Forbear
Deep down in my heart was planted a seed
It took root and grew, yet no blossom it knew
For it never was more than a weed
It was grudge I had for another
Whom I knew had done me a wrong
And after I'd nourished and fed it
No reward blossomed up but a thorn
That constantly touched my heart
To cause it to sore and ache
Till I decided to pull the weed
And plant in its place a prayer
So I asked of God our Father
To help me forgive and forbear
Lo, in the hollow where the weed had fed
A beautiful plant blossomed up instead
That filled the space with forgiveness and love
My thoughts swiftly sped to the heights of peace
That malace no more can reach
From which I look now with pity
Not revenge and seek to teach
The same gift of love God gave me
Forgive and forbear with each.
