THE WIND

Wind mighty moving unseen like a spirit
That we so often feel and often hear it
Whose gentler breezes like a smile does play
Around the face it dances o'er so gay
To kiss the cheek and whisper in the ear
And change the breath of life we love so dear
Many a time I've tried it to embrace
Around my arms it does escape through every space

Once when not looking for the wind to blow
It took my hat and I with fun did go
Chasing my hat and wondering why I could not see
The wind that took my hat to have some fun with me
Again it took my hat to my surprise
To cast it in silent stream before my eyes
Then it seemed to say in silent glee
Were you a fairy you could follow me
Bring back my hat but I had spoke too late
Wind for an answer does not seem to wait

Bang goes the door as I am entering home
The wind, the wind wants me to stay outside and roam
O'er fields where flowers in thin budded youth
Adds fragrance to the breath of air the wind does boast
The wind's a friend for from the leafy tree
It brings the pretty colored leaves for me
I could not climb so high to get them down
It brings them there and places them around

In spring when everything is young and fresh
It seems to me like this is wind itself
But when 'tis winter and the wind blows cold
It seems to me like wind is getting old

Then when I see a man with head and beard snow white
It makes me wonder what the wind looks like
And long and wish for spring again to come
For wind and spring and people to stay young.
