Faith, Hope and Charity
Trouble stole in at my door
And brought sorrow to my heart
And there without even a warning
I and happiness had to part
Dear blessed happiness gone from me
I was sorry from her I had to flee
But I couldn't even imagine then
That happiness of sorrow could make a friend
Sobs or pity gazed me o'er
Gazed and gazed but could do no more
And when I thought I would gladly die
Bid this cruel world a sad good-bye
When charity so fair to see
One day came smiling in on me
And unto me sweet faith it taught
And in my heart a hope it brought
A hope that I can live to be
To some poor soul fair charity
And drive away from their troubled door
The pity that gazes and nothing more.
And brought sorrow to my heart
And there without even a warning
I and happiness had to part
Dear blessed happiness gone from me
I was sorry from her I had to flee
But I couldn't even imagine then
That happiness of sorrow could make a friend
Sobs or pity gazed me o'er
Gazed and gazed but could do no more
And when I thought I would gladly die
Bid this cruel world a sad good-bye
When charity so fair to see
One day came smiling in on me
And unto me sweet faith it taught
And in my heart a hope it brought
A hope that I can live to be
To some poor soul fair charity
And drive away from their troubled door
The pity that gazes and nothing more.
