Clear Conscience

While sailing along on your frail canoe
That stops at the end of time
The drifting winds from the land of bad luck
May come in unseen from behind

Then through the deep waters of trouble
With their cloudy angry foam
You may be steered by this unseen wind
Before reaching your looked for dome

Just make a vow with your conscience
To keep her waters clear
So no matter how cloudy the angry foam
She'll be there your soul to steer

As you sail o'er these waters of trouble
Through the bay of wrongs done thee
You may weep in the river of sorrow
Or safe on the breast of the sea

You may have a dear one beside you
Being called to that unknown shore
See their lives floating from you
And you still sobbing more and more

But if you will stay by clear conscience
No matter how cloudy the foam
This unseen wind will vanish
When you reach your looked for dome

Many there are who will sorrow
Many there are who will mourn
Because they lost their good clean conscience
Before they reached their looked for dome.
