My Great Great Grandfather Moroni

Edward Fuller and his family owned a maple farm in Saratoga Co. New York in the 1830s about the time the Mormon Church was organized a few hundred miles west. Thomas, the oldest son,had a dream one day about two missionaries with a book that came with a new religion. He told the family about this and they were upset and raved about how this is of the devil and they would not believe this new" bible".

A few weeks later, two elders came to the house, dressed exactly the same as in the dream with the Book of Mormon. So convincing was the evidence, that the whole family were converted and baptised. Thomas went to see Joseph Smith and to offer his help. He told Thomas to go to Kirtland,Ohio and help build the Kingdom of God. His sisters, Salley Ann, Hannah and Miranda went with him ,while the rest of the family prepared to sell the share of the farm that they owned. They went on to remove to Jackson Co. Missouri and later to Nauvoo, Illinoiis. The family finally caught up with them in 1840 in Illinois. They were living in the area when Joseph Smith was murdered and removed with the saints in 1847 to Winter Quarter's Indian Territory, which is now Omaha, Nebraska area. Edward died in Summer Quarter's, Indian Territory. This was about 20 miles to the north of present day Omaha, Nebraska. The Fuller family were asked by Brigham Young to plant crops for the wave of travelers to Salt Lake Valley that would be coming. In the fall of 1847, saw 5 members of the family die from a Cholera epidemic that hit the pioneers.

Edward,Thomas,Hannah,Father and Mother Fuller all passed away in a span of 4 months starting in Aug of 1847. This placed a hardship on the family in trying to get to the Valley in 1848. Sanford, Moroni, Emma and Mahala were children, who were orphaned. They came with married members of the family. Sarah Ann Fuller Gully took them with her family. Her huband died before they arrived in the valley. She married Elijah Fuller in Salt Lake and she took them in untill they were old enough to take care of themselves.
