Angry Waves

Out upon life's stormy sea
A reckless tide came after me
Nor would it from my side depart
Until it left its cruel dart

I was as happy as could be
Until this tide came after me
Its waves so angry splashed me o'er
From my heart great pangs it tore

Out upon life's stormy sea
Bold lying tongue's shot flames at me
Till God in pity stretched his arm
Laid o'er my heart this living charm

Now with a gem from God's calm sea
I'll send back a tide to all of these
A tide of kindness and of love
For such things come from God above

When you search me o'er and o'er
You'll find the heart the pangs have tore
Healed by the gem from God's calm sea
That it loves this tide to send to thee.
